FOCUS BACK ON BLOGGING AND FAMILY FUN...

Now with the renovation project in our new bedroom pretty much finished I am hoping to turn my focus back into blogging. Today is the kids last day of school and I will pick them up early at lunchtime then their summer vacation will start. I am so glad to finally have them home for the summer...yes I am one of those mom's who would rather have the kids home. I miss them when they are gone all day!

The weather finally warmed up here ,I am saying this as I watch the rain come down but it will clear this afternoon and be somewhere around 22 degrees celsius. The other day we took the kids to a small beach down by the ferry terminal not far from here. They had a blast running on the sand bar and collecting shells. I will blog more about that experience and our findings later when I figure out how to get the pictures off my camera phone LOL boy do I ever feel dumn some times. Anyway Sunday Matt had to work for a few hours and it was getting hot so I got the sprinkler out to cool off the kids. Later that afternoon we were told about another beach only 6 minutes from our house just down the road from Trinity's dance school so we checked it out. It is a pretty nice sandy beach a will be a great place for us to spend some time this summer and luckily it's not far with the price of gas....again that's another story....The ran up and down the beach and the boys even got in the freezing cold water (keep in mind all the ice just melted about a month ago). Matt stepped in for a second to see what the boys were trying to show him but he couldn't take the cold any longer and got out, (wimp) No I didn't get in either, I had the sea weed (wimp) oh and can't forget miss Trinity, she doesn't like the beach (sea weed) either (another wimp) LOL. When the kids finally got cold we headed home and a great bbq with chicken, potatoes and brocolli. Everything was cooked on the bbq so clean up was easy and left us with time to get the ground ready for the pool but we took it a step further and got the pool set up and got some water in it.

Yesterday was crazy...we took the kids to school and Kohl's class only had 5 students there so his teacher invited Blake to join them for the morning. He was so excited and spent the day calling himself a school boy! he was too funny. When they sat at their desks and worked on a journal entry Blake looked lost and confused until the teacher wrote out a sentence on the board and Blake recongnize the quotation marks....He yelled out " Mrs Cantwell I see your quotation marks!" She was shocked that he knew what they were considering he is only 3 years old....it was a fun morning. I am made it home around 11:00am and got the water running to the pool hoping to get it filled by nightfall (didn't happen) As the pool filled all day yesterday the kids were playing in the pool and just image how cold that was with the water running right from the hose. Anyway the pool should be ready and filled to the max today and I'm sure that is where the kids will spend their afternoon when they get home so I should go and get my butt back on that treadmill before then.

CHECK OUT THE PROGRESS....

Our new bedroom is almost finish, we just have the baseboard molding to put up and then the ceiling (that will not happen right away ....money....). We were up until 2:00am this morning getting the carpet down but it was well worth the time. The room now has that cozy feeling to it and I just love the color and it was cheap it only cost us $30 to pain the entire room, can't be that recycled paint LOL. Anyway I still lots of cleaning to do and hubby will be home a few minutes so I better get back to work. What a long process this room has turned out to be but I love it!

getting the paint on the walls...

laying the carpet piece by piece....this is a new type of carpet that makes it easy to install yourself....the angle to get into the room with a large roll of carpet was to hard to get it in so we went with this solution. I just hope we are happy with it, so far so good but in certain lighting we can still see the seems. This we can live with because we didn't want to put laminate flooring down on the cold concrete. See what happens?
Looks great doesn't it! The kids played on it all morning!

HOUSE CLEANING...

It has been a while coming but now that the sanding is finished in the house I can finally get things cleaned up and organized, well at least in the rest of the house and our room should be put back together and the carpet down by the end of the weekend! Yay!!!!!!! I am hoping that when our bedroom renovation is finished that we will return to some normalcy (is that a word????) around here and just in time for the kids to start their summer vacation. I guess we couldn't ask for better timing.
Yesterday I didn't have anytime to blog hop (shame on me I know) with all the painting we got done and I had some (lots) of work that needed to get done on the computer and with sore ribs I couldn't sit here for long periods of time so imagine how long it took to get my work completed. It was a LONG day but it is over and today starts a new day, I just have to remember to take it easy. My ribs are feeling better but it is still early and I haven't done much of anything yet. I don't think that I cracked a rib but just inflammation of the muscle so I have been taking Advil and hoping for the best. One of the worst things about all this is that I can't sit and play bubble town on facebook and I'm sure I have a scrabulous game or two to catch up on. Maybe I should go check it out now while I am sitting here!

Bed time change

With the school year almost behind us and the days being longer I have become very slack on the kids bed-time. I think the kids deserve to stay up a bit later now that the school year is almost over. As long as they don't get to cranky through the day than I will continue to let them stay up later. They are starting to get smarter and know that if they go quietly and watch a show I will leave them alone for a while longer than normal

Recycled Paints

We have been using recycled paint called Boomerang for our house to save a little bit of cash and I have to say it really goes on the walls well. It actually in my opinion goes on better than the expensive paints. At about 1/3 of the cost of new paint it is an economical way to go. It does have a bit of a smell to it when it's fresh but it fades pretty quickly, out whole house is painted in the recycle paint and you would never know unless I told you.

Online Investments

ANOTHER STEP CLOSER.....

.....TO BEING FINISHED!

Today we finished sanding the bedroom walls and bought the paint! (finally) We went with a warm shade of brown (light) and Matt actually got one coat of paint on the walls earlier this evening. WOW! it looks great and it makes the room look like a warm cozy room and we dont even have the carpet(or ceiling) done yet. I don't have any pictures yet to post but I will hopefully have them on the computer tomorrow then I will make you all wait until the room is finished. This has been a long time coming but we are almost there and we have done the work (except the new window) ourselves! What a feeling :0)

GRADING DAY...

Next Friday is grading day here for all the students and we are planning on heading back home to visit with our family for a couple of days ( 4 days to be exact). This will be the first time that we get to see our new beagle puppy and we can't wait! I never thought that us getting a puppy would be so exciting :0). Now before we can leave we have to wait for hubby to get off work and if/when things slow down he will leave early. We are planning on helping him at work that morning with the cotton candy machine and balloons while Jay dresses up as the Zeddy Bear. He loves doing this and seeing the kids smile. I can't get over how big of a deal they make grading day here....everything is BIG....big gifts, big celebrations! This will be another first for us since we moved. Our first year living here is almost here and we are getting to understand how things work around here LOL

BLACK FOG

Some days are starting to get warm and we have seen the sun but I have to tell you how miserable the weather really is here lately....my God the fog rolls in pretty much every afternoon when I walk up to the school to get the kids and boy does it ever get cold but lately we have been getting "black fog" have you ever heard of this? This is the first time I have ever seen it or heard of it. It looks like the sky is filled with smoke and it gets so creepy looking. I googled it a couple of time and I am not getting a great explanation for it but I tell you the pictures spook me out and I have heard some myths about it as well. Hopefully we dont see too much more of this fog but a lot more sun!

BLISTER RELIEF

A few months ago I started running on the treadmill and for the first couple of weeks I suffered from blisters from my new sneakers. Ouch! This was awful and I had tried many different forms of Blister Relief. Sure the blisters eventually healed and I was as good as new. I haven't been running for some time now and I needed to get new sneakers so I now know what to expect, but I am not going to wait for the blisters to start I am going to use Engo and prevent blistering before it starts! Blister prevention patches are guaranteed to prevent blisters, are long lasting and give immediate relief and are easy to use, just peel, stick and go! Now what could be better than that?

POOL TIME....

I know summer is almost here but it sure as heck doesn't feel like it here yet but with school getting out early next week I thought that we should bite the bullet and set up the pool. We still have a few things left to do in the yard before filing it with water but we are hoping to have it ready when we get back from visiting with our family (and new puppy) next weekend. Oh and speaking of the pool....I saw another one in the paper today for $500....it is 18" around and 48" deep. The cover zips on and LOCKS! We are going to try to get it for the kids next year for grading but for this year we will enjoy the one we have :0)
This picture is of the kids (and Matt) enjoying the pool not long after we moved here in July!

WHAT A MESS....

The renovations are slowly coming to an end and right now the house is a mess with all the sanding of the drywall. This chalky dust is EVERYWHERE. So are you wondering what the kids might be doing during all this work. Well here you see it! They have fun playing in the dust. In this picture it started off with a small white pile of chalky dust, then the boys were driving their little cars and trucks through it making tracks on the mats and then this....they thought it would be fun to make dust angels...oh and angels they are LOL!

RIB DISCOMFORT....

For the past week I have been with some discomfort of the left side of my ribs. This is not PAIN just discomfort and I can't figure out what it could be caused from or what the heck it is for that matter????? This feeling is from the middle to the bottom of my rib cage (left side), doesn't hurt when touched. It actually reminds me of how it felt when I was towards the end of my pregnancies and had the baby right up under the rib cage (and I know I'm not pregnant lol). The only thing I could find on Google was to take it easy, bed rest, no sitting for long periods of time...can you see me doing that? not going to happen around here. Has anyone ever experienced this? Now when I lay down I feel fine! Yes sitting is probably the worst right now and when I push on the area of discomfort I can hear/feel the cracking, grinding sounds. I would go see a doctor about this but without the pain I really don't feel like sitting for 5-7 hours at the Emergency department to get it checked out and we still don't have a family doctor (worst part about moving). For now I will continue on with normal activities around the house and until this goes away I won't be doing any ab exercises....could this have caused the discomfort?
UPDATE....
I think I know what I did to cause the discomfort of my ribs! I was shovelling and levelling off the ground behind the house last week and again the past couple of days. I'm sure this is where things went wrong and I think it all started around the same time. As long as I am walking around I feel ok, so I will just have to watch things around here for a while and let hubby finish up the yard work and our bedroom walls. I just hope it doesn't get worse....

Medical Software

In today's computer age, information travels at so fast and can come from any number of sources. Every profession uses information to process and make decisions and physicians are no different, for generations doctors have had vast collections of medical books, and journals to refer to when diagnosing and treating patients. Today with PDA's an the Internet they can access information quicker and faster than ever before. PDA medical software from Epocrates is available to assist physicians in treating patients their software can identify potential conflicts in prescriptions and research symptoms. With their drug guide loaded into the system decisions can be made quickly from prescriptions, dosage, potential side effects and even health coverage. “This announcement was paid for by Epocrates.”

IS THAT THE SAME TREE?????

Last summer when we moved here I didn't take a liking to the big old apple tree in our backyard and then come the end of the summer all we did was pick up the fallen crab apples. What a pain in the a$$ that was.... well yesterday while I was putting food on the BBQ I noticed how beautiful that tree really is, well at least for now and why would I want to cut down something so beautiful, besides it gives the backyard some really nice shade on those hot days in the summer.

FATHER'S DAY....

.....GONE FISHING (or something like that)!

Ok not really, we have never gone fishing before and Kohl had made his daddy a cool craft at school for Father's Day. It was a cut out paper fish hooked to a paper fishing rod. Blake thought it was the coolest thing ever so I took some time yesterday and made some fish. Instead of making the fishing rod out of paper Matt went outside and got some small branches. They turned out great and it kept the boys entertained most of the afternoon!

Look at the size of that fish!!!!!

SENDING BLOWIE FLOWERS IN THE WIND!

I have to say that my little boy is obsessed with "blowie flowers"! It all started last summer before we moved......Kim and Blake spent many days at the bus stop park while waiting for the kids to get home. These two would sit there and blow these flowers and Blake would chuckle and laugh. Now every "blowie flower" he sees he mentions Kim and will blow the flower hoping that the blowies will make it to her! This picture was taken the other day while at the Wildlife park as he gets down to the flower say " oh mommy, this is the perfect blowie flower for Kim!". We might have moved far away from his buddy Kim but I know he will never forget her :0)

FUN AT THE CIRCUS!

Wednesday night we took the kids to the circus! Since they only had half a day of school on Wednesday I kept them home and after lunch I put the two youngest boys in for a nap hoping that a good rest would make our late night a lot easier on everyone. We headed out and took the kids to McDonald's before the show then went to the Dollarstore to buy some CHEAP treats and thank God we did because the prices they were charging there was ridiculous!!!!!! They were charging $10 for a light sword, $8 for a ride on a camel (if it had of been an elephant ride I would have gone on for you Jenn!) It was just crazy but the kids were happy with all their goodies :0) This was the first time that any of my kids have gone to a circus and they were really surprised with the acts. The fire breathers was the number one hit for the kids along with the trampoline act. Blake well, he said he thought it all was great and was amazed at the size of the 8000 lbs elephant. We made it home and had the kids in bed by 11:00pm then we were up early and out the door for Kohl's school field trip to the Wildlife Park.

Planning the Dream Wedding

Once the courtship has completed with the wedding proposal it is time to kick the planning stage into full gear. In order to make this once in a lifetime occassion be the most memorable event that it should be will take many hours of discussion and planning. Of course you have to plan location, flowers, music, vows, dress, food, but one of the most thought out descions could very well be the guest list. Who to invite, how many is too many or too few, many thoughts come into mind. Of course you want to send out 1st Class Wedding Invitations to encourage your friends and family to attend your special day with you. While shopping for invitations you can use their new "ZOOM" feature which allows you to see the incredible detail you will recieve on your invitations, this feature is exclusive to this website and really makes you appreciate the quality work you will recieve. My personal favorite of the site is the Bride and Groom Invitation it shows that both parties are coming together to invite. I can remember so well our own wedding and the concerns of fighting that had occurred recently between some of our family members. It was awkward because we wanted to have both parties at our wedding but didn't want to offend either party by inviting the other. It was tricky and in the end we didn't invite one because of the strong push back we recieved. Years later it was such a silly decision because after a year or so they got over their differances but a sad memory we will have of our wedding day will always be not having them both with us for the day. It's important in planning your wedding to ensure you do what is best for the Bride and Groom and not for everyone that will be in attendance it is of course their day.

NEED WORMS?

We finally had a nice day (well at least the morning) so I spent it outside with Blake getting some yard work done. While I dug in the dirt he collected worms and played with them (tortured them) on the rock. Not only did he dig up the worms but he gave them a bubble bath then left them in the sun to bake. He was dirty I tell you and I can't tell you how many times I washed his hands. He had the time of his life!
Now with the yard work done we should be able to start setting up our pool just in case it gets warm this summer LOL
Tonight we are off to the circus!

How do you get motivated to clean

After getting through the day with our hectic lifestyle, 4 kids through school, workday and activities in the evenigs for them, basketball, guitar, dance etc it can be exhausting and sometimes there just isn't enough hours in the day to get it all done. I have to admit there are nights we go to bed and have to kick our way to the bed. When the house starts to get really neglected a sure fire way to get things cleaned up is to invite people over for a visit. We can't show a messy house so we will stay up extra late and really get moving to ensure everything is cleaned up. With our recent attach of renovations in the house our poor Dirt Devil has taken a beating and it is just about time to get a new one. We are beginning to shop around and came accross this new line of hand held and stick vac's from Dirt Devil called the accucharge. This is a great line of light weight but powerfull cordless vacuums. These bagless vacuums are great for any type of flooring you have, carpet, wood, area rugs it can handle them all. Also in this day of saving energy for the green movement these vacuums have received the Energy Star rating and is the first line of cordless vacuums to have achieved that designation.

BEAGLE PUPPY!

We are still trying to decide whether or not we are going to get the kids a puppy????? I has been really hard on us trying to make the right decision and we were honestly leaning towards NOT getting one BUT today we both are now considering the possibility once again and Blake has already named her. Her name will be Breigh (if we get one). I think it's a cute name don't you????
We are going home to visit on grading day at the end of the month and will be away for 4 days and we will finally get to see the puppies. I'm sure this will be the final straw in our decision making as our hearts melt. I mean really just look at this picture! How could anyone say no to a face like this :0) It sounds like we are getting a puppy doesn't it?
If anyone has any tips on how to train a puppy please pass them along. I have never had a dog before and like having kids I want to start of doing it right.

STILL UNDECIDED.....

Do you want a puppy? Yes? No? We are having such a hard time with this...the other day we decided that we weren't but no we have my FIL holding on to one until we go visit the end of June when the kids are finished school (great grading gift?) By then the puppies might be ready to leave their mommy. So I guess we will leave it until then. I just don't want to make a decision and regret it.... with either decision we make. Wish me luck!
